Prof. Joseph Ugboaja OON Recognized as CMD of the Year by AfriHealth Consortium

On Thursday, September 19th, 2024, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), was honored with the prestigious CMD of the Year award by the AfriHealth Consortium. The award ceremony took place during the International Health Expo held at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

The event was attended by a distinguished gathering, including senior ministry officials, top government functionaries, major players within the medical equipment industry, and members of the media. Prof. Ugboaja used this platform to discuss NAUTH's ongoing Perm Site mega project, the hospital's journey so far, and the challenges it currently faces.

Notably, Prof. Ugboaja also explored potential partnerships with key stakeholders in the healthcare sector, with the aim of achieving NAUTH's vision of becoming one of the top three healthcare destinations in Nigeria by 2030.

The AfriHealth Consortium is an international consortium of health entrepreneurs that has played a pivotal role in promoting the healthcare industry in Nigeria, showcasing its strengths and working towards improving the sector to reduce medical tourism. The consortium organizes well-attended quarterly health expos, bringing together industry players, including producers, consumers, and regulators of healthcare services in Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Ugboaja expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating that it serves as an incentive to double his efforts in ensuring that NAUTH meets its institutional vision. He also emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership with AfriHealth, as it is expected to provide a significant boost to the hospital's services and visibility.

Prof. Ugboaja further called on partners and corporate organizations in the healthcare sector to support NAUTH's efforts in building the biggest hospital in West Africa, as the hospital works towards achieving its vision. He acknowledged the hospital's current partners and encouraged them to continue their support until the hospital reaches its goals, as a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
