Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is reportedly preparing to resign amid growing zoning-related tensions within the party.
According to an insider, Ganduje is expected to be replaced in an acting capacity by one of the party’s national vice chairmen. This interim arrangement will remain in place until a new substantive chairman is elected at the APC’s national convention slated for December 2025.
Ganduje, who previously served as Governor of Kano State, assumed the chairmanship in August 2023 following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, a North Central representative. However, his appointment sparked backlash from stakeholders in the North-Central zone, who argued that the position should return to their region in accordance with the party’s zoning principles.
While no official announcement has been made by Ganduje or the APC, party sources confirm that plans for a formal handover are already in motion. The move is seen as a calculated effort to ease internal tensions and maintain party unity ahead of upcoming political engagements.
